Oakmont Country Club
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Healthland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive. Oakmont Country Club is a private golf course with 18 holes, which is located in Glendale, California. It was built in the greenest part of California in 1924 by the well known designer, Max Behr. The greens of the course are very fast and it has several sand bunkers. Billy Bell, William F. Bell and David Rainville have contributed a lot in redesigning this course. Its Greens grass type is Bent grass and it Fairways grass type is Bent grass with no water hazards. It has around 71 to 80 sand bunkers with yardage markers of 200, 150 and 100 yard markers and sprinkler heads. Open but challenging and picturesque with beautiful flowers, wildlife and a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside, Oakmont Country Club offers a challenging round of golf for players of all skill levels. The course also provides sufficient variety of terrain to challenge even the most advanced golfer.
