Villa d'Este Golf Club
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society. The Circolo Golf Villa d'Este lies at the heart of the Brianza hills, just south of Como on the shores of the small and romantic Lake Montorfano. Villa d'Este is one of Italy's most esteemed clubs and has a long golfing tradition. Commissioned by the society owner of the Grand Hotel Villa d'Este, in Cernobbio on Como's lakeshore, the golf course was designed by Peter Gannon and the club was inaugurated in 1926. It soon became a leading golfing facility in Europe and a favourite amongst the aristocracy, with such visitors as King Leopold of Belgium, Edward of England or Alfonso XIII of Spain, along with famous stars of Hollywood like Clark Gable or Bing Crosby.
The Montorfano course is a Par 69, 18 holes, measuring 6265 yards with a standard scratch score of 70 from the championship tees.It stretches on the lakeshore through mature chestnuts groves and lush birch and pine woods. Even though rather short by modern standard, it can be regarded as one of the most challenging course in country and has been the venue of many Opens and international competitions.
Villa d'Este Golf Club is one of the premier and superior golf courses that also offers the best hotels and the best features at the best prices. One can start their first golf experience here and can accomplish all expectations for the sport in all dimensions along with great sporting skills.
