Utrechtse Golf Club de Pan
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Healthland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive. Utrechtse Golf Club de Pan was established in 1894 and designed by Architect Harry S. Colt. This par 72 course has 18 holes measuring 6,088 meters or 6,660 yards with a slope gradient of 123 for a standard scratch score of 70 from the championship tees. It is the second oldest club in the Netherlands after Royal The Hague. Ranked amongst Europe top courses, its superb layout was designed by famous British architect Harry S. Colt, author of other gems in the country such as Kennemer, Eindhoven and Royal The Hague. Utrechtse Golf Club de Pan Course is laid out through thick woods and over sandy soil, providing for good drainage and ideal playing conditions year round. The course is also little much hillier than one would expect in this low land country Netherlands literally means low lands. Utrecht is Holland's fourth biggest city, a lively town famous for its university, the largest in the country and its international trade fair founded in 1916. It is also a charming city criss-crossed by canals the Old Canal runs right through town, its pedestrian wharfs lined with many shops and restaurants.
