Real Club de Golf Sotogrande

Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society.

The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Healthland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande was established in1964 and designed by architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr. with 27 holes. With five championship golf courses, Sotogrande is without doubt one of the world's golfing Mecca. The first course at Sotogrande was the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, opened in 1964, soon to be followed by Valderrama and the nine hole course La Canada, all designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior. Sotogrande has become the leading golf resort in Southern Europe, both for the number of holes and the quality of the layouts.

This par 72 course has 18 holes measuring 6,224 meters or 6,915 yards with a slope gradient of 132 for a standard scratch score of 72.5 from the championship tees. Set within the lush Sotogrande Resort, on a very quite site surrounded by luxury estates, this Robert Trent Jones Senior championship layout unfold through a magnificent parkland environment. The perfectly groomed Bermuda grass of the fairways and the practical absence of rough make playing this course a delight.

Nevertheless, intentionally placed bunkers, several water hazards and the layout of the course add spice to this challenging course. Tee times reservation must be made in advance, also dress code is required. The clubhouse is only opened to members and their guests. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
