Quinta do Peru Golf Club
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society. Quinta do Peru Golf Club was established in 1994. This course is designed by Architect William Rocky Roquemore. Quinta do Peru lies at the heart of the Reserva da Mata Nacional dos Medios forest reserve, on a peninsula located between the Tagus and Sado river estuaries, halfway between Lisbon and the harbour city of Setubal. In these beautiful wooded surrounding, American architect Rocky Roquemore has designed a superb golf course set amidst a low density residential complex, with the backdrop of the Sierra da Arrabida ridge. This par 72 course has 18 holes measuring 6,074 meters or 5,545 yards from the championship tees. Quinta do Peru is perfectly located a short drive away from Lisbon to the north, the Costa da Caparica to the west and the Costa Azul to the south. The Costa da Caparica is a low lying shore with a miles long sandy beach and sandstone cliffs, backed by thick pinewoods. In contrast, the Costa Azul is a spectacular stretch of rocky coastline protected from the northern wind by the Arrabida ridge and enjoying a near Mediterranean climate. The overall feeling at Quinta do Peru is one of a well balanced and candid course, where hazards are clearly there to be seen, and allowing players to decide their tactics and score well on their first round. Although evenly spaced to give golfers room to breathe, there are sufficient difficulties to keep players attentive to their game and provide an exiting round of golf. Laid on a flattish terrain and through a pleasant pine forest, Quinta do Peru was designed for players to have fun. Its ranking is 46 amongst the top 100 European courses, according to British magazine Golf World. Walking is allowed on the course and buggies available. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
