PGA Golf de Catalunya

Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society.

PGA Golf de Catalunya located in Caldes de Malavella, Spain. The course was established in 1999 and designed by architect Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo. PGA Golf de Catalunya enjoys a stunning location in the Selva region on a wooded estate in the Costa Brava hinterland near Girona. Inaugurated in 1999, this venue is now a full golf resort, with the addition of a second eighteen holes course in 2005.

PGA Golf de Catalunya is the latest course in PGA, Professional Golfers' Association European Tour Courses' portfolio and was designed by Neil Coles and Angel Gallardo, in combination with European Golf Design. Angel Gallardo is also the director of the club, vice president of the PGA European Tour. Set on undulating and densely wooded land featuring a great variety pine and cork trees which line the fairways, the course spreads over 72 hectares of the fine 220 hectare estate.

This par 72 course has 18 holes measuring 6,588 meters or 7,208 yards with a slope gradient of 138 for a standard scratch score of 75 from the championship tees. The course flows softly through the dense vegetation, following the contours of the land and making the most of the natural scenery of the terrain.

With over 50 hectares of seeded greens and fairways, the course has the major surface of turf of any course in Europe. The layout is very fair and quite open with spectacular elevated tees and a perfect combination of left and right dog legs, yet this is a thinker course which demands careful reflex before shooting and call for tactical decisions. Buggies and caddies are available on the course. Golf de Catalunya won IAGTO, International Association of Golf Tour Operators Awards of Costa Brava as the best emerging golf destination in 2001. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
