Oitavos Golfe
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. Oitavos Golfe was established in 2001 and designed by Architect Arthur Hills with 18 holes. Oitavos Golfe is fully known as Quinta da Marinha Oitavos Golfe. Quinta da Marinha is a big estate within a nature preserve extending down to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and the famous beach of Guincho. Protected from the northern winds by the Serra da Sintra range and densely wooded grounds, the estate's whispering pines, twisting paths, lush gardens and sand dunes form the outstanding background to Quinta da Marinha facilities. This par 71 course has 18 holes measuring 6,379 meters or 6,979 yards with a slope gradient of 134 for a standard scratch score of 73.8 from the championship tees. The course Oitavos has been carefully routed to take complete advantage of the three natural areas of the estate, the wonderful umbrella pine grove, the dunes land and the more open coastal transition area. The routing is a continuous loop of holes with nine out and nine in, similar to conventional Scottish links courses. The layout provides a great range of holes and playing conditions, with remote views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra Hills from each hole. The new Quinta da Marinha, which includes Arthur Hills' Quinta da Marinha Oitavos Golfe, Quinta da Marinha Health and Racquet Club and Quinta da Marinha Equestrian Centre. This superb course is beautifully complemented by extensive practice facilities including a 300 meters long driving range with five target greens, a large putting green nearby to the clubhouse and a smaller one next to the first tee and a short game area with a double green, a variety of sand bunkers, fairway and rough area for approach and pitching practice. Oitavos Golfe is one of the only two courses worldwide and the first outside the United States to receive the Audubon Gold Signature status, the highest qualification available for environmental protection and development. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
