Hilversumsche Golf Club

Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society.

Hilversumsche Golf Club was founded in 1910 and the course lay out in the wooded outskirts of Hilversum, east of the city and right on the border with the neighboring province of Utrecht. Designed by Del Court van Krimpen, the layout extends on sandy soil through a dense forest, a perfect example of conventional inland course design. Hilversum is one of the most prominent clubs in the Netherlands and has been the venue of six Dutch Opens in a row from 1994 to 1999.

This par 72 course has 18 holes measuring 6,098 meters or 6,671 yards with a slope gradient of 134 for a standard scratch score of 71.2 from the championship tees. Due to its location in a dense forest with many old trees, some fairways are very tight and will need precision and flight shots. The sandy nature of the soil also provides for good drainage and perfect playing conditions year round. Fairways bunkers are few but intentionally placed and the well guarded mid-sized greens add to the difficulty of this very technical course. Hilversum is a walking course and no buggies are available.

Hilversum's beautiful woodland course is complemented by complete practice facilities, while the clubhouse amenities include a bar and a restaurant. Although a private club, visitors are welcomed on weekdays but must book in advance and present a handicap certificate of maximum 24, for both ladies and gentlemen. Weekend play is restricted to members and their guests, and the golf course is closed for green fee players from 1 November to 31 March. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
