Gut Altentann Golf Club

Golf is an outdoor sport, originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Heathland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive.

In Henndorf am Wallersee, Gut Altentann extends through the scenic environment of the lush Flachgau countryside. Inaugurated in 1988, this prestigious course was Jack Nicklaus’ first design in Europe. It is ranked as one of the two best golf courses in Austria and amongst the finest clubs in Europe. Gut Altentann has been the venue of the Austrian PGA, Professional Golfers Association, Open on two occasions. Gut Altentann is a member of The Leading Golf Courses of Austria and The Finest Golf Clubs of the World.

At Gut Altentann, Nicklaus believes that golf should be based far more on precision than power and golfers should be rewarded to use their brains rather than muscles. He harmonized the fauna, flora and wildlife with respect to the natural characteristics of the area and the original contour of the land. Two lakes, several brooks, marshes and the topography of the terrain have been skilfully brought into the rigorous design to shape the layout and the result is a course beautifully integrated into its bucolic landscape of smoothly rising hills, woods and rivers maintaining the continuity between holes and the pace of the course.

Located on the gently rolling hills above Lake Wallersee, the course has its individual character and unique atmosphere as it alternates between open land and woodland, while the natural hazards formed by mature tall stand of trees, lakes, brooks and marshes often come in play and call for precision and concentration. All courses are in top notch conditions and attended by the most experienced teams of green-keepers. This Par 72 Course has 18 holes measuring 6,223 meters or 6,808 yards with a SSS, Standard Scratch Score, of 72 from the championship tees.

Their goal isn't just to make the green, it's to improve the quality of the game. They desire to exceed the needs and expectations of their guests, members and landlords by maintaining superior golf facilities and providing exceptional service at a great value.
