Golf du Medoc (Les Chateaux course)

Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society.

The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Healthland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive.

Medoc Golf Club offers an exclusive golf course known as Les Chateaux course which is located amidst the famous vineyards of Medoc, on the southern bank of the Gironde estuary near Bordeaux. It is a golf course that has 18 holes and is extremely well maintained with a great deal of variation. It was built in the year 1989 and designed by a renowned designer Bill Coore and Ron Whitmann.

Les Chateaux was designed in the purest tradition of the Scottish links, yet without the traditional sand dunes. The course unfolds over a flat and open country with rolling and wide fairways bordered by a thick heather, broom and gorse rough. Some water hazards and ditches also dot the layout. The huge and fast greens, fine bunkering and the technical difficulties of the layout make this course a challenge for golfers of any handicap. The Medoc Golf Club was the venue of the French Open in 1999, won by Retief Goosen, of South Africa.

Open but challenging and picturesque with beautiful flowers, wildlife and a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside, Les Chateaux course offers a challenging round of golf for players of all skill levels.
