Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (Black course)

Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. This game does not have any fixed standard playing area, but an ideal measurement can be decided as per the availability of space and number of players involved. The game basically originated from Scotland and has been played for at least five centuries in the British Isles. Although often viewed as an elite pastime, golf is now becoming an increasingly popular sport across all sections of society.

Club de Campo Villa de Madrid was established in 1932 and designed by Architect Javier Arana with 36 holes. At that time it only featured a 9 holes regular course and another 9 holes course with dirt greens. The first 18 holes course was built in 1956 by famous Spanish architect Javier Arana of El Saler fame. Located amidst 200 hectares of pine groves and cork oaks in the rolling hills of the Casa de Campo, a beautiful park right on the border of Madrid, both courses enjoy breathtaking views over the surrounding wooded hills and the city, which looks remarkably close looming behind the trees.

This par 71 course has 18 holes measuring 6,374 meters or 6,974 yards with a slope gradient of 133 for a standard scratch score of 73.5 from the championship tees. With nearly 7,000 yards from the championship tees, this is one of the longest courses in Europe and very demanding indeed, not only for its length but for its technical difficulties as well. The layout rolls up and down through the hills of the Casa de Campo.

The fairways run through pine groves and cork oaks and are both long and broad, but their width is often curtailed by bunkers some of them of almost Scottish dimensions, intentionally placed around the tee shot landing areas. The course was completely renovated in 1991 after the Spanish Open, while respecting totally the original layout and enjoys an ideal grooming.

Club de Campo has played a remarkable championship ranging from a World Cup, seven Spanish Opens, 8 PGA, Professional Golfers' Association Madrid Open, six PGA Spanish Championships, European Clubs Cup and an Espiritu Santo Trophy. The course is designed specifically to improve the quality of the game.
