Castelcontrubia Golf Club
Golf is an outdoor sport where player as an individual or from varied teams strike a ball targeting a hole using various clubs. The two basic forms of playing golf are match play and stroke play. Golf is played on a tract of land known as the course which consists of a series of holes or cups. Most golf courses usually consist of nine or eighteen holes. There are several types of golf courses namely Parkland, Links, Healthland, Desert, Browns, Sand, Snow, Par3 and Executive.
Castelconturbia Golf Club is both the oldest and youngest course with exciting features. The course is located in Italy and was founded in 1898 as the Couturbier Golf Club. The club was renamed as Golf de Conturbia in 1920 and was finally refurbished completely in 1984 by Robert Trent Jones. The course is ranked second amongst Italy's top courses and run 15th in the top 100 European courses listed by British golf magazine Golf World.
Castelconturbia Golf Club possesses three different courses that include Giallo, Azzuro and Rosso. Though the three nines can be combined to produce diverse layouts, the blue or yellow course is the championship combination that was chosen to host the Italian Open, both in 1991 and 1998. The layout is an achievement of course integration in natural surroundings, which were left largely undisturbed by the architect. The fairways cover an area of 250 acres and stretch between secular trees, small streams, lakes and gently undulating land, with the majestic backdrop of the snow capped Monte Rosa looming in the distance.
Once on the greens, players will still have to cope with some tough putting as these are pretty large and with devilish slopes and breaks. Castelconturbia includes holes deep in the woods, requiring utmost precision, as well as long and wide open holes extending over gently rippling terrain. The spectacular 18th hole’s green lies right in the middle of large, natural amphitheatre that can accommodate spectators during tournaments.
